Moose Jaw’s Joel Jordison and Saskatoon’s Shawn Joyce advanced from the  Region 6 Men’s Curling Playdowns at the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre this weekend.

The event featured four teams — Jordison, Joyce, Jayme Jordison and Darren Engel — battling for two berths to Southern SaskTel Playdown in Estevan which begins Thursday.

Joel Jordison booked his place at southerns when he posted a 3-0 record in the round robin part of the playdowns. He beat Engel in the final round robin game in a battle of unbeaten rinks.

Engel and Joyce finished second and third respectively in the round robin and met in a single game to determine the other qualifier.

Joyce took an 8-7 lead into the 10th end while Engel held the hammer. Engel had a tap back with his final stone to score a point and force an extra end, but the shot wrecked on a guard and Joyce took the 9-7 win.
