Joel Jordison got of to a winning start SaskTel Tankard Men’s Southern playdowns in Estevan Thursday.
Jordison and his Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre rink of third Jason Ackerman, second Brent Goeres and lead Curtis Horwath defeated Swift Current’s Clayton Wicks 8-4.
In other opening day action Estevan’s Brent Gedak beat Swift Current’s Reagan Hadden 8-3. Assiniboia’s Jason Weal lost 5-4 to Jeff Hartung from Langenburg.
Jordison was in control against Wicks as he took two with the hammer in the third end and three more in the fifth to go ahead 5-2. Wicks scored a pair in the seventh to cut the lead to one, but Jordison scored a pair in the eighth and stole another in the ninth.
Shawn Joyce from Saskatoon, who is representing the Ford Curling Centre, won his opening game as he beat Clint Krismer from the Regina Tartan 7-3.
Jordison meets Joyce today at 9 a.m. in an A event quarter-final.
Gedak — who is curling with John Aston, Derek Owens and Malcolm Vanstone – scored four in the first end to take control of the game very early.
He will meet Brock Virtue from the Regina Callie in an A quarter-final.
Weal and his rink of Norm Kinchen, Ian Coghill and Claive Wilson will play Mark Walter from Lampman in the B event Friday.
