It was a hard fought battle to the end as the top two teams in the 109th annual Moose Jaw men’s bonspiel faced off in the A-side final on Sunday afternoon at the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre.

Terry Barkway went undefeated in round robin action before facing Ryan Wenarchuk in the A-side final and was edged 9-8.

The Barkway rink got off to an early lead, scoring two in the first end and another in the second end and scored three points in the fourth end. The Wenarchuk rink scored two in the second end and then found their stride — scoring six points combined in the fifth, sixth and seventh ends. They scored on their second final rock in the ninth end for the victory.

“We got right back in and we were only about a quarter of an inch of making that in-off for the win. We threw pretty good and it was a very close game,” stated Barkway after the game.

The Wenarchuk rink did their best to battle back and they knew they were in tough after going down 6-2 after four ends. But the team stayed positive and chipped away at the score.

“We were just having a hard time at the beginning to really stay in the game, but once we got going, it picked up for us,” explained Wenarchuk.
