Pat Simmons’ dream of winning the Brier will have to wait another year.

The local curler — who competes out of Calgary — and the rest of the Kevin Koe rink came up short in the final at the Alberta Boston Pizza Cup playdowns in Leduc Sunday.

Kevin Martin beat Koe 5-4 in an extra end in a provincial final that featured two of the best rinks in the world.

Koe tied the game in the 10th end, but Martin made the hammer count in the extra end to advance.

The win will give Martin his 12th Brier appearance. He has won the event four times.

Simmons has gone the Brier five times as a skip while representing Saskatchewan and he attended last year as Koe’s third while representing Alberta. They lost 7-6 to Glenn Howard in the 2012 Brier final.
