Tenetuik loses in playoffs at junior curling provincials

Cole Tenetuik’s run at the Provincial Junior Men’s Curling Championship ended in the Page playoffs Monday.


Tenetuik lost 7-4 to Chad Lang from the Saskatoon Nutana in a battle of the two pool runner-ups.

Lang took an early 4-1 lead before Tenetuik was able to close the game to 5-4 in the seventh end. Lang scored twice in the ninth end before running Tenetuik out of rocks in the 10th.

Tenetuik and his Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre rink of third Travis Tokarz, second Garret Springer and lead Aaron Verbeem finished second in Pool A with a 4-1 record.

In the other Page playoff Tyler Hartung from Langenburg beat Saskatoon’s Brady Scharback 6-3 to advance to today’s final.

In the semifinal, Lang beat Scharback 9-7. Scharback scored three points in the eighth end to take the lead, but Lang replied with three of his own in the ninth to go ahead for good.

In the women’s Page playoffs, Saskatoon’s Jessica Hanson beat Kronau’s Lorraine Schneider 7-2 to advance to the final. Kristen Streifel from the Saskatoon Nutana beat Danielle Bertsch 7-2 in the other playoff game.

In the semifinal Streifel beat Schneider 6-5 to advance to face Hanson.
