John Mohan is suffering from a mid-life crisis.
Mohan, the chief executive officer of the Siloam Mission in Winnipeg, is coping with his crisis and celebrating his 51st birthday by cycling more than 1,300 km from the British Columbia/Alberta border to Winnipeg.
Mohan calls the trip his "Continuing Mid-Life Crisis Bikeathon for the Homeless."
Mohan will be riding his bike for 12 days and hopes to raise $125,000 for the mission's program and services through those who sponsor the ride.
Mohan grew up in Moose Jaw and will be passing through the city today.
This is the second year Mohan has taken this trek. Last year he rode his bicycle from Calgary to Winnipeg advocating for the nation's homeless.
Mohan said through a press release that last year's bikeathon was neither fun nor easy as he is not an avid cyclist. He said it was hard work and he had to push his limits every day.
Mohan said through the journey he was both reminded and motivated by the knowledge that those experiencing homelessness face real challenges and crises on a daily basis.
Mohan hopes to bike 150 km a day and has been preparing for the trip since January.
The programs that will benefit from the fundraiser are the Siloam Mission's emergency shelter, food services program, health centre and employment training program.
