Fully one half of the Moose Jaw Motocross Association's two-day event saw excellent weather and solid performances from local riders this weekend.
The other half, well, it didn't happen. With the rain producing a slippery and muddy track posing a danger to riders, Sunday's races were cancelled outright.
"We just thought it would be good to cancel it for safety," said local motocross racer Dean Evans.
But Saturday's weather was near perfect, and Evans and the other Moose Jaw riders put on a good show during the provincial circuit race.
Evans finished second in the Plus-25 group and fourth in the Plus-40 group.
"I did fairly well," he said. "I was hoping to get third, though."
With the 2009 season well underway, the riders have gotten a feel for their competitors and how the field stacks up against one another.
"The competition was good. It seems like we're getting . . . the same group of guys out on the circuit usually," said Evans. "(But) a lot of the riders are mixing it up, it's not consistent (where you'll finish). It's not like I know I'm going to get second every weekend."
