City of Moose Jaw municipal planner Michelle Sanson said residents could expect to see more bicycle-friendly roadways in future development areas if council approves the proposed community plan.
The proposed plan includes the encouragement and establishment of cycling paths and routes locally, allowing recreational travel and bike access to and from places of employment, as well as schools.
The plan also recommends separate cycling paths in parks and along boulevards, as well as separate bicycle lanes on designated streets where separate bike paths are not feasible.
Sanson told the Times-Herald the community plan would promote development of such bike-friendly paths in existing parts of the city, but is more so intended for future subdivisions.
During the July 13 executive committee meeting, the executive committee voted to hold an informal information meeting with administration to learn more about community plan proposals and administration explained the document details to council on Monday.
The development of a local community plan has been years in the making, with engineering department surveys going out to Moose Javians in 2002 and public discussion sessions held in 2003.
Despite the many years administration has worked on the plan, Sanson said it's not unusual that certain council members would require more information on the plan before giving it first bylaw reading.
