Moose Jaw -
The Moose Jaw Miller Express have had some success with players from Colby Community College in Kansas.
Now the Western Major Baseball League team is hoping that a coach from Colby will lead the team to success on the diamond.
Monday the Millers announced that Colby assistant coach Michael Hunt will be their head coach for the 2009 WMBL season.
Hunt replaces J.R. Bierly who was let go late last season.
"Last year we had some concerns with the coach we had and we felt that Michael brings sort of the opposite in terms of a no-nonsense mentality - more a businesslike mentality," said Miller Express president Darryl Pisio.
Hunt hails from Edmonton and is in his second season with the Colby Trojans. Colby had three players on the Express last season - including WMBL Canadian rookie of the year Eric Sim - and that pipeline led to the hiring of Hunt.
"We had some good success with some players from Colby College and that was through their head coach (Ryan Carter)," said Pisio. "We talked about some candidates that he might have thought of and he recommended Michael Hunt."
