The Cougars kept things close in the first half, allowing just a 7-0 lead for the visitors. But a breakdown on all fronts in the second half saw Watrous run away with things as the players shivered in the rain. “Watrous came ready to play. They’ve got a big, athletic, fit team,” said Caronport coach Ken Guenter. “Just a good, basic ground game. They run a really conventional offence. Nothing fancy, but they block and tackle well. Eventually we broke down.” The weather certainly hampered things for both sides, but Guenter said his starting quarterback Kyron Hoimyr simply wasn’t prepared for the cold. “He just wasn’t dressed warm enough and he just couldn’t function,” said the coach. “When you can’t function, it’s hard to execute.”
