In a thrilling, down-to-the-wire game Friday, Vanier and Swift Current gave the sparse audience who braved the chilly weather a great show.
The Vikings edged out the Colts 32-29 in high school football at Gutheridge Field with a late comeback victory.
Up 14-0 in the first quarter, Vanier saw the Colts storm back to tie the game before the second. It would be 24-17 at the half, but Swift Current refused to say die, taking a 29-24 lead that would only be broken by Vanier in the last minute of play.
“That’s what made it real exciting,” said Vikings assistant coach Rod Heisler. “(Neither) team was going to give up.”
Braden North’s last-minute touchdown sealed the deal, while Keegan Arnyek’s two-point conversion was the icing on the cake.
