Vanier led 7-0 at the half in a game that saw both teams cough up the ball and fail to capitalize on opportunities, yet still come up with big plays at times. Ultimately, the Cyclones had a few more of those up their sleeve as they scored all their points in the fourth quarter.
“Vanier played a really hard game,” said Central coach Dave Roney. “Our guys dug deep and pulled it out when it counted.”
The fact that the win required the team to come from behind made it all the more sweet.
“It’s something we haven’t been able to do this year,” said Roney. “We’ve been looking for it and the guys came up with it when we needed it, on both sides of the ball.”
Central fumbled four times while the Vikings did so twice, and neither team recovered their own. But there were offensive bright spots for both sides. Michael North had 131 yards rushing on 13 carries for Vanier, while QB Kahlen Branning was 7-for-10 with 139 yard passing.
