Moose Jaw’s Dylan Barker was selected first overall in the 2008 CFL Entry Draft by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, but it was only a month after that he found out he would miss the entire season, and possibly his career, due to a serious left ankle injury which included a fractured fibula, dislocated ankle and strained ligaments.
But Barker rebounded in the 2009 season and played in all 18 games. To say that he excelled in a special teams role would be a huge understatement because Barker tied the CFL record for most special teams tackles in a season with 37. He also started the last three games of the season at his traditional safety position and registered five tackles in the Tiger-Cats Eastern semifinal loss to the B.C. Lions.
As a result, the Tiger-Cats awarded him with a contract extension, made public Sunday, that will keep the 6'3, 206 pound safety in a black and gold uniform until the end of the 2012 season.
