Saskatchewan did something British Columbia could not Wednesday at the Football Canada Cup in Wolfville, Nova Scotia; they learned to hold on to a slippery ball.
The under-18 provincial team, despite fumbling on their first two offensive plays, thumped B.C. 33-2 in the national semifinal. Wet, humid conditions made the game an uncomfortable affair, especially for the west coasters, who committed six of the game’s eight turnovers.
With the victory, Saskatchewan advances to Saturday’s final versus Quebec, who dominated host Nova Scotia 31-0 in the other semifinal.
Moose Jaw is well-represented on the provincial team, with Central’s Jacques Geyer, Peacock’s Justin Filteau and Vanier’s Keegan Arnyek all defensive starters.
