Saskatchewan claimed the Football Canada Cup championship Saturday thanks to a 18-10 win over Quebec.
This year’s Canada Cup was an under-18 tournament. Last year Saskatchewan won when it was an under-19 title.
Saskatchewan went unbeaten in three games to claim the title at Acadia University in Wolfville, N.S.
Team Sask featured Vanier’s Keegan Arnyek, Peacock’s Justin Filteau and Central’s Jacques Geyer on defence. Geyer was named to the tournament all-star team at defensive end.
The game was tied 3-3 at the half. Quebec took a 10-3 lead after the third quarter.
Sask quarterback Drew Burko threw a touchdown pass to Addison Richards for a touchdown to tie the game with 11:44 left in the game.
Burko put them ahead for good with a one-yard touchdown plunge with 2:11 left in the fourth quarter.
The defence stopped Quebec on two straight third down gambles in the final two minutes. One of them led to a Sask. single to round out the scoring.
