The Express defeated the Regina Red Sox 11-10 in 13 innings on Wednesday night in Western Major Baseball League action.
The Express scored five runs in the second inning, all with two outs.
However, that wasn’t enough to stop the Red Sox from rallying from behind.
At one point, the Express had a 10-3 lead after seven innings, but squandered three runs in the eighth inning and four more in the ninth inning.
Todd Leavitt had a solid outing for the Express, going five innings where he gave up three runs on six hits, walked four and struck out three.
Terry McNabb earned his second win of the season already as he came in to pitch the 12th and 13th innings. He struck out four batters in those two innings of work.
Andrew Solomon had a strong night at the plate, hitting a base-clearing triple in the seventh inning — which looked like it would seal the victory for the Express.
It was a fielder’s choice by Solomon in the top of the 13th inning that brought home his fifth RBI of the game to put the Express up by one.
McNabb came in for face five batters to close out the win.
The Express used Tanner Spencer, Josh Janzen and Jason Renner in relief as well.
Also adding RBI were Danny Lokesak, Austin Russell and Brady Rogers.
Both teams had 12 hits, but the Express made four errors to Regina’s three.
The Express are back in action tonight (7 p.m., Ross Wells Park) when the Edmonton Prospects are in town.
