Moose Jaw's Jason Collins admitted he hasn't done much golfing this year.
But when he did golf this weekend, it turned out to be profitable, as Collins won the 'A' side event at the Carl Jorgensen Par-27 Championship at the Lynbrook Golf and Country Club. The tournament, named after a former Lynbrook pro shop owner, is a fundraiser for the Moose Jaw Health Foundation.
Collins had a tough match against Darren Boychuk to claim the top prize, but Collins' putting came around on Sunday.
"I was able to make some putts and that really saved me," said Collins, whose father knew Jorgensen well. "It was a good match in the final. Darren had a couple of three putts and I just kept putting good."
The tournament format has golfers going head to head, playing three shots each at 50, 100 and 150 yards. The tournament ran Saturday and Sunday and emphasizes the short game abilities of the golfers.
Bill McLean won the 'B' side event with a win over Myles Maruschak and Lynbrook general manager Tyler Muench won the 'C' side with a win over Jon White. Dave Jorgenson, Carl's son, won the 'D' side event when he defeated Howard Dore.
"I've only golfed a few times this year so I was really surprised by how well I golfed," said Collins.
