It’s hard to blame him.
For the second year in a row, the Deer Valley golfer won the Amateur in decisive fashion. Zaba shot a final round 71 for a 211 total at the three-day event. He finished six shots ahead of Daryl Herchuk (72-73-72 — 217).
“It was a good week,” said Zaba. “I putted fairly well. I made some good par putts and par saves. The putter was working pretty good for the most part.”
Zaba shared the lead after the opening round as he and Keith Dutchak each shot a 69. Zaba’s second round 71 gave him a four-shot lead over Dutchak, who finished tied for third with Rob Auckland after shooting a final round 80. Dutchak and Auckland each finished at 224 and Ryan McNall was fifth after shooting 228.
Last year Zaba beat Auckland by seven strokes to win the South Sask Amateur.
Zaba finished two-under for the tournament.
“You can make a lot of birdies out here,” said Zaba. “I made 15 birdies this week.”
