When Craig Benson used to run the Lynbrook Golf and Country Club, his son Trevor started swinging a golf club shortly after he could stand.
He’s put in many rounds on various courses, too many to count, so it comes as little surprise when Trevor has a big day at the course.
But on Canada Day, his performance shocked even himself and his dad.
The 20-year-old Benson shot a unheard of 64 on Thursday during Lynbrook’s Canada Day tournament, not only finishing in first in the tournament, but breaking the course record set by his dad back in the 90’s.
“I was ecstatic,” said a wide-smiling Benson in the clubhouse shortly after his round. “I called him right after. I don’t know if he believed it.
“It’s pretty cool. He’s pretty proud of me, I’m sure (breaking his record) didn’t bother him at all.”
