Marlyce Searcy posted the best round on each day of the women’s city golf championship to comfortably win her first title.
Tuesday Searcy grabbed an 11-shot lead with an opening round 87 at the Hillcrest and Wednesday she sealed the title by shooting a low round of 89 at the Lynbrook.
“They were good rounds,” said Searcy who felt that her round at the Lynbrook was a shade better than she would normally shoot.
“Being under 90 is a bonus for me.”
Chantal Devine wasn’t in the final group of four, but she was able to post a final round 90 to finish second in the tournament. She shot a two-day 192, leaving Searcy with a 16-shot victory.
The women’s city title has been dominated by Lorie Boyle for decades, but the with Boyle not entered this year, the event was wide open. It was Searcy’s first win in more than 30 years of entering the event.
Jean Kempel (98-96 — 194) finished third, Brenda Halstead (99-98 — 197) was fourth and Ciara Spratt (102-99 — 201) finished fifth.
