Nathan Corrin picked a good day to have his best round of the summer.
The 13-year-old Moose Jaw golfer shot a one-over 72 in his final round at the SGI Canada junior men’s provincial golf championship at in Prince Albert.
That final round earned Corrin the 14-and-under provincial golf title.
“I started putting well (Friday),” said Corrin. “That was my best round of the season.”
Corrin finished tied for 26th overall at the event at the Cooke Municipal golf course in Prince Albert. The top 18-and-under golfers battle for the overall provincial title, with separate titles also being given to the top 16-, 14- and 12-and-under golfers.
Corrin began the day three-shots behind Prince Albert’s Zach Hurd for the 14-and-under title. Coronach’s Riley Grona was four shots off of the lead and right on Corrin’s tail.
Hurd shot an 82, while Grona shot an 81 in the final round. Corrin’s fantastic final round — it was the 11th best round of the day — gave him a seven-shot win to claim the under-14 crown.
He said his putting in the final round was “was the difference between (Friday) and the other days.”
Corrin finished with rounds of 87, 84, 76 and 72 for 319 four-day total.
Corrin said he was “little bit” disappointed with his opening round 87, but he got progressively better, shooting an 84 and a 76 to make the cut.
“I just didn’t hit my clubs as well as I did the rest of the week,” said Corrin.
Corrin began the final day tied for 36th overall and moved up to a tie for 26th.
Moose Jaw’s Leighton Bearchell also made the cut and was tied with Corrin after three rounds as he shot 88-82-77 for his first three rounds.
Last year Corrin won the 12-and-under provincial title.
