Local golfers raising money for KidSport by golfing all day
Shaun Muchowski is a hoping a full day of playing golf will make sports more available to Moose Jaw youth.
Muchowski and his friend Curtis Breton will be raising money for KidSport Tuesday by golfing at the Lynbrook from sun up to sundown.
"I just wanted to do something and Kid Sport was a good charity. I was able to always plays sports when I was a kid," said Muchowski.
The pair raised "a little over $2,200" last year for KidSport provides financial assistance for registration fees and equipment to kids aged 18 and under.
"Last year we processed 126 applications in nine months," said Cory Olafson, president of KidSport Moose Jaw. "Money was running dry and we didn't know Shaun had done it last time. He told us about it after the fact. He gave us a call and told us he raised two grand on his own. We were pretty impressed."
Olfason noted that KidSport Moose Jaw gets funding from the provincial KidSport organization, but that any extra money raised for local youth can always be used.
Muchowski said they are hoping to be able to match last year's total.
"I don't know if we're going to get there. It's not new and cool any more, so it's been a little slower," he said.
While playing golf all day might be a dream for some, the reality can be pretty exhausting.
"We were getting sore by the end. My feet were pretty sore by the end. My partner was struggling to swing by the end. It's hard on the body," said Muchowski who noted that their game didn't hold up too well by the end either. "We didn't play real well. We're hoping to make a few more birdies this year."
Muchowski said that he and Breton generally golf three times a week. Given that, they're looking to cram nearly three weeks worth of golf into one day.
"We're shooting for 150 hold," said Muchowski. "Last year we only did 117, so we're going to see if we can get to 150."
