The Civic Centre has been the site of many goaltender duels involving the Moose Jaw Warriors in the past, but there's one taking place before the exhibition season even starts.
There are four goaltenders remaining in camp, with three of them fighting for a spot behind lone puck-stopping incumbent Todd Mathews.
"I think there's a number of different scenarios we have to look at," said Warriors coach Dave Hunchak, who along with the rest of the Warriors brass, has been tasked with making the ultimate decision. "A lot of the decision process that we're going to go through revolves around how many games we think Todd can play for us."
Mathews, 18, played in 20 games for the Warriors last year, getting a 9-5-1 record with a 2.75 GAA. With that being his only WHL experience, there is still a question mark about if he can carry the full number-one goaltender's load.
"I had to go with the mindset this summer that I knew I had to get this position," said Mathews. "I knew I had to work hard for it and I knew I was going to be pushed by some of the younger goaltenders here."
