The Kootenay Ice (34-16-2-2) are once again going streaking. With their 2-1 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors (26-19-4-3) Wednesday at the Moose Jaw Civic Centre, the Ice have won four in a row and have points in their last five. The winning streak is two games removed from their 14 game win streak that took place in December and January of this year.
Todd Mathews, goalie for the Ice, stole the game from the Warriors who were on the lip of his crease throughout the night. He stopped 37 of 38 shots and was named the game’s first star.
Warriors tender Jeff Bosch was sharp in his own right, stopping 30 of 32 incoming pucks.
Ice captain Dustin Sylvester scored his 28th goal of the season for the Ice in the first period and is now tied for fourth with Jordan Eberle of the Regina Pats in WHL scoring with 74 points. Defenceman Hayden Rintoul scored for the Ice in the second period, which turned out to be the game winner.
Thomas Frazee scored the lone goal for the Warriors in the game’s final frame.
With the loss, the Prince Albert Raiders leapfrogged the Warriors, who are now in the eighth spot with 59 points.
The Tribe will host the Eastern Conference’s sixth seed, the Red Deer Rebels (29-20-0-4) Friday at the Moose Jaw Civic Centre.
