Jeff Truitt, the Moose Jaw Warriors director of hockey operations announced Tuesday that he is leaving the organization.
Truitt will assume the assistant coach position for the San Antonio Rampage at the end of July. The Rampage are the Phoenix Coyotes affiliate in the American Hockey League.
“If it wasn’t an exceptional offer I don’t think I would have ever entertained it,” said Truitt. “I was early in a contract and I wanted to move this team to another level. I thought we made some good progress last year.”
Truitt took over as the director of hockey operations on June 1, 2009.
The search for a replacement will begin immediately.
“We’re not going to panic regarding a timeline,” said Warriors president Chad Taylor. “We’re going to start looking today. It is getting later in the off-season. We feel that there are still some good candidates out there.
“We’ll do our due diligence and make sure we have the right fit for our club.”
The Coyotes organization contacted the Warriors Thursday to ask permission to speak to Truitt. In a matter of days he had the job.
“It’s something I never banked on, to be honest with you,” said Truitt.
“If the offer wasn’t substantial enough or interesting enough then I would have simply not taken it. The offer is substantial enough that I couldn’t turn it down.”
