The Moose Jaw Generals Midget AAA hockey club will have their inaugural preseason camp this weekend at the Civic Centre and according to head coach Ray Wareham, there may not be too many surprises as the roster is pretty much set.
“This is really the first year that it’s been this solidified. We usually have four or five open spots going in,” said Wareham. “I’m not sure if it’s because we’re hosting the regionals or not but we wanted to confirm some things and the kids themselves wanted some confirmation on where they were going.”
Wareham did come up with a short-list of guys who have a good shot of bumping themselves up and onto the Generals main roster.
All three of them are 1995-born players, two of which played for the Lumsden-Bethune Lions last year, Joel Gellvear and Brayden Schmidt. Darcy DeRoose from the Weyburn Wings is the third guy on the list that could make some noise on the weekend.
“They all had real good spring camps so we brought them back,” said Wareham. “There’s an opportunity there, it may be a slim one, but we’ll see how they do on the weekend and go from there.”
