While the Moose Jaw Warriors were busy making personnel decisions with their players Monday, they made a decision with their staff too.
The Warriors reached an agreement with goaltending coach David Marcoux to return for a second season.
“He’s very knowledgeable and brings great experience in,” said Alan Millar, the Warriors director of hockey operations. “He spent six years working at the National Hockey League level. We feel he’s a very experience, knowledgeable guy to be working with our goalies on a week to week basis.”
Marcoux was the Calgary Flames goaltender coach from 2003 to 2009. He worked closely with Miikka Kiprusoff as the Finnish netminder emerged as one of the best goalies in the NHL.
Last season was his first with the Warriors. While Marcoux is not based in Moose Jaw he stayed in touch with the Warriors’ goalies last season and came to work with them in practice throughout the season.
“He’ll be in and out of town working with the goalies,” said Millar. “This year what we worked out with Dave is that . . . he is going to connect with our players and the team on the road a little bit more than he did last year. In saying that it was basically the same agreement.”
He has been busy this summer with his David Marcoux’s School of Goaltending plus working with incumbent Warrior goalies Brandon Glover and Jeff Bosch in the off-season.
Tribe tidbits . . . the Warriors’ season ticket holder barbecue will be held Monday, Sept. 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Connor Park.
