For a pre-season game, you could do worse than a hard-fought overtime loss.

The Moose Jaw Warriors lost 2-1in overtime to the Swift Current Broncos in Maple Creek.

Czech defenceman Richard Nedomel scored for the Broncos with 30 seconds left in overtime.

“It pretty good for an exhibition game,” said Warriors head coach Mike Stothers. “It was still a little erratic, but you can’t really complain when it was 2-1 in an exhibition game. It was a close, tight-checking hockey game.”

The Broncos will travel to face the Warriors Sunday afternoon (2 p.m., Mosaic Place) in pre-season action. The Warriors beat the Broncos in a rookie game in their only other pre-season action to date.

Broncos veteran Graham Black scored a power play goal with 5:06 left in the first period to open the scoring.

It only took Josh Uhrich nine seconds to tie the game for the Warriors. The 16-year-old Uhrich scored on an assist from Justin Kirsch. That was all the scoring as both teams played tight defence the rest of the way.

Justin Paulic got the start in goal for the Warriors and went the distance.

“I liked how we competed and I though Paulic played pretty good,” said Stothers. “Given that we were missing some pretty good guys, I thought we played well all in all.”

Finnish rookie Eetu Laurikainen went the distance in goal for the Broncos.

The Warriors started about as young a line-up as they could. They scratched Spencer Tremblay, Morgan Rielly, Kendall McFaull, Brayden Point, Sam Fioretti, Austin Bourhis, Tanner Eberle (shoulder) and Brayden Cuthbert (concussion).

Stothers said there will be changes to the line-up for Sunday’s game.
