Warriors pick up three of four points out of weekend games

Matt Bellerive scored the only goal in the shootout to give the Red Deer Rebels a 4-3 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors Sunday at Mosaic Place.

Red Deer’s Charles Inglis scored with 49.2 seconds left in the third period to tie the game and force overtime. The goal was originally credited to Cory Millette, but changed by the WHL on Monday.

In overtime the Warriors earned their only power play of the night, but failed to take advantage after the Rebels were called for having too-many men on the ice.

The Rebels took a 2-0 lead after two periods before the Warriors (3-3-0-1) scored three straight goals to take the lead.

Sam Fioretti and Andrew Johnson scored in the second period to tie the game before Travis Brown gave the Warriors a 3-2 lead with 4:53 left in the third period.

It was Fioretti’s fifth straight game with a point — he has six goals and four assists over that span — but he hit the crossbar in the shootout to end the game. Fioretti is tied for the WHL scoring lead with 12 points.

Red Deer’s Patrik Bartosak made 41 saves during the game and also stopped Morgan Rielly and Justin Kirsch in the shootout for the Rebels (3-5-0-1).

Tyson Ness and Mathew Dumba staked the Rebels to the early lead.

Justin Paulic made 29 saves over the 65 minutes and stopped Dumba in the shootout.

The loss snapped the Warriors’ 19-game regular season home winning streak dating back to last season.

The Warriors have picked up at least a point at home in 25 straight regular season games and counting. Their last home loss in regulation came on Nov. 23, 2011 against Calgary.
