Collins and Nagy score to lead the way

Moose Jaw Generals forward and Ogema native, Regan Nagy scored the eventual game winner to help lead Team Saskatchewan to a 2-1 win over Manitoba for the bronze medal at the Western Canada Under-16 Challenge Cup.

The two teams were stuck in a 0-0 draw until 5:10 of the third period when Shane Collins from the Generals scored on a point shot that beat Manitoba’s goaltender, Mario Petit.

With less than two minutes remaining, Nagy scored into the empty net. Meyer Nell got Manitoba on the board just 16 seconds after Nagy’s goal, but Saskatchewan held on for the victory.

British Columbia took home the gold medal with a convincing 9-3 win over Team Alberta. Team B.C. scored five goals in the opening frame and then held Alberta scoreless in the final two frames while adding four more goals.

Moose Jaw Warriors prospect Zach Sawchenko was named the tournament’s All-Star goaltender. Saskatchewan’s Ethan Bear was named as an All-Star defenceman as well.
