Three goals in 1:48 in the first period was more than enough for the Moose Jaw Warriors who beat the Kootenay Ice 4-1 in Western Hockey League action Saturday night in Cranbrook, B.C.
The win gives the Warriors three out of a possible six points on their three-game Central Division road trip. The Warriors will host the Lethbridge Hurricanes Monday afternoon (2 p.m., Mosaic Place).
The Warriors power play got the offence started as Justin Kirsch scored his ninth of the season and Joel Edmunson scored shortly thereafter. The Warriors converted their first two power play chances.
Twenty seconds after Edmundson put the Warriors ahead 2-0, Brandon Potomak scored his first career WHL goal to put the Tribe ahead 3-0.
Kootenay pushed back in the second period and out-shot the Warriors 12-5. They were rewarded when Zach McPhee scored to cut the lead to 3-1.
On the next shift the Warriors responded. This time, it was the turn of defenceman Kirk Johnson to score his first WHL goal.
Justin Paulic made 25 saves in the win for the Warriors.
Mackenzie Skapski stopped 10 of the shots he faced before being pulled after the Johnson goal. Wyatt Hoflin stopped all nine shots he faced in relief.
Sam Fioretti picked up a pair of assists in the win.
