Team West wins; Team Pacific dropped

Team West and Team Pacific opened the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge with different outcomes.

In the preliminary round action, Team West downed Slovakia 5-2. Moose Jaw Warriors forward Josh Uhrich had two assists in the win. Other Warrior Miles Warkentine and Midget AAA Generals forward Rhett Gardner were held off the score sheet.

Team Pacific was rolled over by the United States 6-2 in their first preliminary game. The US scored five goals in the second period and Team Pacific were held off the board in the final two periods. Warriors forward Brayden Point was held off the score sheet.

Sweden will take on Team West at 12:30 p.m. and Team Pacific will face Russia at 6:30 p.m. today in Quebec.
