The Warriors reassigned forward Brett Brooks to the Winnipeg Blues in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League before the Warriors played the Calgary Hitmen on Wednesday evening.
The 18-year-old from Winnipeg will return to his former midget team for the remainder of the season.
“It not a roster move based on acquiring other players as much as it is on Brett Brooks and his development as a player,” said Warriors General Manager Alan Millar. “He was in-and-out of the lineup and when he was in the lineup, he was a fourth line guy. I think that there is an opportunity for him to go to a good team with the Winnipeg Blues.”
In 69 games with the Warriors, Brooks had four points and 12 penalty minutes with a +/- rating of -13.
“We are hoping that he can regain some of his confidence, some of his offensive touch and hopefully that gives him some development and momentum to return to the Western Hockey League next year,” said Millar. “He is a great kid that has worked hard. He was very understanding and mature. Looking at what is best for his career…take a step back for the second half of the season will benefit him in the future.”
