The Moose Jaw Junior C Canucks beat the Lumsden Lumberjax 7-2 Wednesday night to clinch the top spot in the Regina Hockey Inc.’s Junior C league.

The Canucks finished with an impressive 21-3-1 record during the regular season.

This weekend they will be one of 16 teams to take part in the Brewer’s Cup tournament at the Co-Operators Centre in Regina.

The Canucks are in a pool with the Nipigon Elks from Ontario, Alberta’s Crowchild BlackHawks and their fellow Regina League foes, the Southey Marlins. The Marlins are the defending provincial Junior C champions.

The pool winners will advance to the semifinals Sunday morning before the final is played Sunday afternoon.

The tournament features teams from B.C., Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan.

Mitch Holick won the regular season scoring title as he tallied 98 points. His 42 goals were also best in the league. Teammate Zach Evans wasn’t far behind as he scored 40 goals and had 91 points to finish second in each category.

Lucas McKay had 62 points to finish fifth in league scoring.

In Wednesday’s win, the Canucks scored four goals in the first period to take a big early lead against the Lumberjax.

McKay led the way with a hat trick. Evans chipped in with a goal and three assists. Holick had a goal and four assists. Ben Newans and Chad Webster also scored for the Canucks.

Webster chipped in with an assist as did Scott Goudie, Harley Robinson, Keenan Wilson and Alex Wicharuk.
