Olivia Howe and the Clarkson Golden Knights will play for a national title.

Olivia Howe and the Clarkson Golden Knights are headed to the NCAA's Frozen Four final.

Clarkson scored five unanswered goals as they beat Mercyhurst 5-1 in the NCAA women's hockey national semifinal Friday night. It was the Knights' first trip to the Frozen Four.

Clarkson will meet the top-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers (36-1-1) in the national final Sunday at 1 p.m. local time. The school has never won an NCAA Division I national title in any sport.

Howe, a right winger from Moose Jaw, is in her second season with the Golden Knights. She played on a line with sisters Cayley Mercer and captain Carly Mercer.

Clarkson had the better of the early chances, but Mercyhurst scored the only goal of the first period through Jaclyn Arbour.

Clarkson scored three goals in the second period to take the lead for good. Renata Fast and Vanessa Gagnon had a goal and an assist each and Christine Lambert also scored. Brittany Styner scored an insurance goal in the third period before Howe cleared the zone and picked up an assist on a Shannon MacAulay empty net goal.

Clarkson out-shot Mercyhurst 35-19.

Sunday's final will be available for streaming on ncaa.com.
