The Moose Jaw Warriors lost a member of their hockey club.
The team released a statement on Wednesday about the death of prospect Ethan Williams.
“Our entire organization is very saddened with the news of Ethan Williams’ passing,” said Alan Millar, Warriors general manager. “Ethan was a fine young man and a very talented hockey player. Our thoughts and prayers are with Chris, Shannon and the entire Williams family during this difficult time.”
Williams, 17, from Winnipeg, M.B. was selected in the fifth round, 90th overall by the Warriors in the 2012 WHL bantam draft.
He signed a standard player agreement contract after attending his first training camp.
He played last season with the Winnipeg Thrashers of the MMAAAHL.
Current and former players of the Warriors as well as other WHL players paid their respect for Williams via Twitter.
