The old saying that 'defence wins championships' may not apply so well to lawn bowling, but Ernie Meid is hopeful that experience will earn his team a national medal.
The local bowler and his team - skip Keith Roney, third Doug Propp and second David Calam - will head to Victoria to take on the rest of Canada in the national lawn bowling championships, beginning Monday.
"We're pretty optimistic about our chances. We should do pretty well," says Meid. "We're an experienced team and we would consider ourselves a medal favourite."
After going undefeated through four provincial playdown matches, the foursome is confident in their current play.
"I'm bowling well. We've all been doing well," says Meid. "We've got four pretty solid bowlers. If we bowl to our potential we should do pretty well."
