The mini polka party at the Cosmo Senior Citizen's Centre Saturday night wasn't mini at all.
In fact, over 250 Moose Javians put on their dancing shoes and headed down to the Cosmo Centre for the event, said the centre's president Vic Matity.
Matity said the reason it was called a mini polka party when anyone could see it wasn't in the least a mini party, was because it isn't a Western Canada party, it is just local.
The dance, which featured two Saskatchewan polka bands, was an eight-hour event, running from 4 p.m. until midnight.
"People don't want to go home," said Matity. "They stay here until that last note is played."
And playing those notes were The Keenotes from Regina and Frank Ball from Saskatoon.
He said the two bands were part of the draw to get people out to the dance and it worked.
"This is an excellent turnout. Last year we had about 211 and this year there will be between 250 and 260."
The event sold out less than 15 minutes after the first note was played.
"The people just have so much fun here and it's a great venue. We have great music, great food and great company."
Matity said the Cosmo Centre hosts regular dances at $10 a person. He said the reason the mini polka is so popular is because it features two bands opposed to one and "is a guaranteed great time."
The next event being held at the centre is a regular dance and will feature Three for the Show from Davidson.
Matity said he is expecting around 175 guests to that event.
