You can't come much closer to winning a national lawn bowling championship gold medal without actually doing it than Team Saskatchewan did in the men's fours on Sunday.
The team - including Moose Jaw's Ernie Meid at lead - fell 19-16 to the defending champions from Quebec despite leading heading into the final three ends at the Juan De Fuca Lawning Bowling Club in Victoria, B.C.
"It was a real tough way to lose it, but that's the way it goes," said Meid, who took the field with Keith Roney, Doug Propp and David Calam. "We had a couple of really tough breaks at the end of the game and that was it."
Team Sask had a chance to take control of the contest in the 16th, but as Meid described it, "I guess you could say we might have got a little bit greedy and we ended up giving it away," as Quebec tied the contest.
