Seniors in Moose Jaw will celebrate Saskatchewan Seniors' Week Sept. 28 to Oct. 5 with a variety of activities and special events.
A proclamation will be signed Sept. 22 by Mayor Dale McBain to officially declare the local celebration.
The week will officially get underway Sept. 28 with a banquet and entertainment at 5:30 p.m. at Timothy Eaton Gardens with the mayor and city councillors as guests. Only 150 tickets will be sold.
Tours of the seniors' centre at Timothy Eaton Gardens will run Sept. 29 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a free ice cream social from 2 to 4 p.m.
A seniors' speaker spectacular will take place Sept. 30 with speakers talking throughout the day on the health and well-being of seniors.
The events for Oct. 1 will include a bake sale from 1 to 4 p.m. and a potluck supper at 5:30 p.m. A Tai Chi routine with fans and swords will be presented.
Free coffee or tea will be served Oct. 2 from 2 to 4 p.m.
A free pancake breakfast will be served Oct. 3 from 8 to 10 a.m. followed by the grand opening of Main Street Pharmacy at 11 a.m.
A dance and midnight lunch is planned for that day from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the convention centre on the Moose Jaw Exhibition Grounds. There will be non-stop dance music provided by a disc jockey and participants will also have a chance to perform in a karaoke. This dance is open to seniors and their families, with tickets required prior to 3 p.m. on Oct. 2.
The Moose Jaw Kinsmen Club will supply rides to and from the dance.
Scrabble Club No. 264
Moose Jaw Scrabble Club No. 264 will resume sessions Friday at 1 p.m. in the craft room of the Cosmo Centre and will meet there every Friday. All past and new players are welcome.
During the summer, games have been played at the homes of various members.
Mary Campbell and Joyce Gurnsey attended the Zone 3 55 Plus games June 22 in Maple Creek with Campbell winning the recreational division and Gurnsey placing third in the competitive division.
Upcoming tournaments are being held in Saskatoon, Regina and Brandon and some local members will attend.
