    Four different schools earned won individual or team gold medals at the Moose Jaw high school badminton city championships Thursday.

    Peacock, however, finished as the top team as the collected 14 team points narrowly beating Central who had 12.

    Riverview’s mixed doubles pair of Ashley Schutte and Ryan Cox beat Central’s Lindsay Fish and Kellan Patterson 21-23, 21-18, 21-19 in a thrilling final game of the round robin to win the title.

    Central’s pair of Michael Holzer and Daniel Markewich went unbeaten in winning the boys doubles title. They beat second-place finishers Ben Newans and Ryan Ma from Central 21-13, 21-15.

    Peacock finished one-two in girls doubles as Kayla Bugg and Amy van den Hooven finished unbeaten. Toni and Charlotte Williams-Greatorex finished second with a 2-2 record. Bugg and van den Hooven beat their schoolmates 21-13, 21-8.

    Central’s Stephanie Kendall repeated as city champion as she went unbeaten. She beat second-place finisher Madison Rice of Peacock 21-9, 21-10.

    In the boys singles Jon Phillips won a grueling three set match to clinch the city title. The Grade 9 from Cornerstone beat Peacock’s Mike Flegel 22-20, 16-21, 21-12. That knocked Flegel down to third place. Peacock’s Kyle Dalgarno finished second. He lost to Phillips 24-22, 21-19 in another close game.

    The city champions and the runners up will represent the city at the SCDAA District Badminton tournament at Peacock Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
