The first half of the local junior high school badminton city championships were held Tuesday.
Brittnee Gilbert won the girls singles title after she posted a 7-0 record in round robin play. She beat Peacock’s Karstin VanTassel 21-12 in the closest game of the round robin.
VanTassel finished second and Vanier’s Faith Ogundipe was third.
Central’s Myles McDougall beat Cornerstone’s Jesse Seida 23-21 in their round robin final match. The field of 19 boys was whittled down to the three medalists who then squared off to determine placing.
Seida finished second and Vanier’s Ben Radwanski was third.
Central’s Zach Schutte and Chelsea Shaw won the mixed doubles title thanks to a 21-12, 15-21, 22-20 win over Peacock’s Karstin VanTassel and Jared Wilks.
The Peacock pair was second and Cornerstone’s Marrisa Mellor and Jesse Seida were third.
The boys and girls doubles will be contested Thursday afternoon at Peacock.
