The Moose Jaw Mustangs packed nearly half of their season schedule into this past week.
That grind finally showed Wednesday when they lost 9-7 to the Regina Rifles in Prairie Gold Junior Lacrosse League play in Regina.
“We took that one on the chin with a short bench,” said Mustangs coach Dale Freeman.
The Mustangs only had 11 players which gave them two lines.
The Mustangs lost Cody Dunlop in the first period when he rolled his ankle. The situation was so dire that they decided to take Sheldon Paul out of goal and use him as a runner and put their other goalie Ryan Klippenstein in net.
The Mustangs were playing their fourth game in six days. They will now get two weeks off before closing the regular season at home Sunday June 27 when they host the Saskatoon Smash.
The Rifles scored five goals in the second period to take a 7-3 lead.
