Pharmasave was honoured Thursday morning as the longest-standing sponsor of Welcome Wagon in Canada.
Pat Neuman, president of the Welcome Wagon organization, presented a plaque to Dale Toni, a pharmacist and the manager of the store, to recognize the store's 70 years of support.
Pharmasave first became a sponsor of Welcome Wagon on June 1, 1938, when the first contract was signed by former store owner Lenard Fysh.
Over the years, as the store's name and management changed, the sponsorship continued.
During the presentation, Bonny Rossler, area manager for Saskatchewan said the honour is just one more to be added to the history books for Moose Jaw.
She said this event was particularly special because it was recognizing a business in her own hometown.
"It's such a wonderful tribute."
Rossler said having sponsors like Pharmasave are the backbone to the organization, and with its partnership comes a great service that can be offered across the country to people who are new to any location.
"I think it is such an important organization if only because it makes someone who is new to a community feel welcome and introduces them to local businesses, like Pharmasave."
Neuman said it is a rare occasion to honour a business that has shown so much dedication.
Neuman said the next longest running sponsor has put in 53 years.
In 2010, Welcome Wagon will be celebrating 80 years in Canada.
