Fifteen Moose Jaw and district families were recognized by the province Tuesday for 100 years of continuous ownership of the family homestead.
John Adamache of Limerick and his son Steve of Assiniboia, in their fourth generation of farming, were among them.
"It feels pretty good to be recognized for contributing to the opening up of the country," said John, whose grandfather homesteaded in the Limerick district with a group of immigrants from Romania around 1907.
Constructing a church on a neighbour's farm was one of the first things the community did, he says. Still standing, the church is used occasionally.
