There was plenty of high stakes volleyball being played across the province as the fields for the 10 SHSAA provincials championships started to get whittled down.

At the 4A boys conference playdowns in Shaunavon, the host Shadows, Cornerstone/Riverview and Caronport all finished with 2-1 records. All three will advance to the regionals which will be held next weekend in Shaunavon.

Caronport finished first because they were the only team to lose in three sets. Shaunavon was second and Cornerstone/Riverview third. Assiniboia finished fourth.

In the boys’ 5A regional, Central lost the third-place game 30-28, 25-15 and will not advance to provincials. The Cyclones lost to Yorkton Regional 25-15, 11-25, 25-17 in the semifinals.

Vanier and Peacock failed to advance out of their pools at the 5A boys regional.

In 4A girls regional, Caronport beat Lumsden in the third-place game to book their spot at the 4A provincials in Rosetown.

Rouleau also qualified from the 1A girls southern regional as champions. Rouleau lost to Yellow Grass in pool play, but rallied to beat Mossbank 25-21, 25-22 in the semifinal. They beat Midale 25-20, 25-16 in the final to advance to provincials.
