Toilers get a good test from Assiniboia in girls basketball action

After a busy and successful weekend, the Peacock Toilers girls basketball team got a great test in league play Tuesday.

The Toilers were able to beat the Assiniboia Rockets 62-58 in Moose Jaw Senior Girls Basketball League play.

Amy Williams and Megan Crone each scored 21 points to lead the Toilers.

Courtney Davies had 16 points to pace the Rockets.

In the other senior girls game, the Caronport Cougars pulled away in the second half to beat the Central Cyclones 58-30.

The Cougars had a six point lead at the break, but their offence managed to chip in with 36 second-half points to pull away.

Leah Hundeby scored 15 points for the Cougars and Emily Peters added a dozen more. Paige Newans led Central with 16 points.

In senior boys basketball play, the Central Cyclones defeated the Caronport Cougars 99-42.

Dax Whitehead had a game-high 31 points for the Cyclones, while Jonathan Phillips added 20 and Zach Schutte had 12.

Brendan Adrian led Caronport with 14 points, while Chris Williams added eight and Jonny Toews and Orrin Harrison each had seven.

The score from the Peacock vs. Riverview/Cornerstone senior boys game was unavailable at press time.
