This summer has had some milestone anniversaries from 1969 including man's first walk on the moon on July 20.
It's also been 40 years since Charles Manson and some of his followers broke into actress Sharon Tait's home and murdered her and friends who were visiting the home on Aug. 8, 1969. It was a mass murder that shocked the world.
But the big one began 40 years ago today - Woodstock. From Aug. 15 to Aug. 18, thousands camped on a farmer's field in upstate New York and listened to the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Santana, Grateful Dead, The Who, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Joe Cocker, Sha-Na-Na, Jefferson Airplane, Joan Baez and many others.
Tickets for the three-day event were $18 in advance and $24 at the gate. You wouldn't get tickets for one performance of any big name group now at those prices.
It was a concert that marked a musical milestone. Sadly, Woodstock became known just as much for the drugs consumed and the unharnessed sexual atmosphere.
But one thing is clear - there will never be another concert like it. After 40 years, it's the one people still talk about - even people born long after the '60s. Nothing else has come close.

Is that what people think now? Things must to have changed. It was always remembered for LOVE AND PEACE. They never in their wildest dreams imagined the amount of people that would show up. Yes, the prices were incredible, especially considering the talent. However, they became so overwhelmed by the amount of people, that they opened the gates and it became a free concert. It became three days of peace, love and music. The people set a real example on how people should behave. No problems and no violance. Do you think this could possible happen today? I seriously doubt it. That is what really made it special, people helping people, not people hurting people, which is what it would have turned into if it happened today. Perhaps you should do more research before you write about it.
