The Saturday leg of the Cause for a Walk is well underway this morning, as 158 women continue their three-day journey from Buffalo Pound Provincial Park to Moose Jaw.
The ladies are walking the 97 km to raise more than $100,000 for an operating room surgical bed in the women's ward at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital.
The group started at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning to continue moving south towards the city under a hot Saskatchewan sun.
"It is awesome," said walker Heather Eby. "We prayed for good weather, and we got good weather. The wind is perfect."
Eby and her walking partner Lori Gaucher, both of Moose Jaw, said they are in good shape, but the event was still trying for them.
"We're regular walkers, but this was a lot more commitment," said Eby. "We were pretty diligent about our training."
"It's a big commitment, but it's well worth it," said Gaucher. "It's for a good cause. I'm happy I did it."
Eby echoed that sentiment.
"We're much happier to be participants than observers," she laughed.
The walk will end tomorrow afternoon when the women finish their trek at Wakamow Park.
