They were far more outraged by time the game was over.
The Nads had two players ejected and nine others assessed 10-minute ‘sin bin’ penalties in a 23-5 loss to the Regina Rogues that ended their season.
“It left a very bad taste in our mouths . . . with how things went,” said Nads veteran Lorne Polupski. “The reffing was absolutely god awful. I don’t usually blame anything on the reffing. I think as a team you have to win. But when you have two people ejected, nine sin bins and they had two of those. I’ve never seen so many people carded in a rugby game in my 28 years I’ve been playing rugby and neither did anyone else.”
Polupski said after the match some of the Regina fans came up to him and apologized for the way the game played out.
“We were up after the game getting some fluids and people from Regina were coming up to me and apologizing for the reffing,” he said. “Any normal league would have a referee . . . from Saskatoon come down and ref this game and have a ref from Regina go up to Saskatoon and ref their game.”
Nads knocked out of rugby playoffs
The Moose Jaw Nads felt aggrieved even before their Saskatchewan Rugby Union south final game kicked off.
